The latest Notification by CBSE over revised syllabus for Class 9 to Class 12 which has been done in disguise of rationalizing the course keeping in view the impact of Covid is unwarranted and ideologically motivated.

CBSE has completely deleted chapters on Federalism, Citizenship, Nationalism and Secularism from the political science syllabus of Class 11. Relevant sections from other subjects too have been omitted which includes GST, Demonetization, Social Movements, Partition, only to name few. The removal of these sections exposes the intention of the Government. In the past we’ve seen desperate attempts by BJP Govt. to re-write the History and bring changes in school curriculum to suit their larger political agenda. The pandemic should not be treated as an opportunity to further the political propaganda of the ruling regime.

We do believe that we are dealing with a major global pandemic and some initiatives need to be taken regarding the Academic calendar. But such drastic measure to cut down the syllabus by 30 percent is definitely not the solution. Also, the sections which are being left out are quite pertinent and relevant for school going students. The MHRD and CBSE should work out alternate plans, if needed extend the academic calendar but compromising the syllabus for pushing their political agenda is definitely not the solution.
