SOLIDARITY WITH THE PROTESTING STUDENTS OF HCU

NO COMMERCIALISATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES!
AISA condemns the auctioning of 400 acres of HCU’s land & the police brutality against protesting students on the orders of the Congress-led Telangana government!
Under the guise of ‘planned development,’ the Congress-led Telangana government has chosen to auction off 400 acres of prime land—an area rich in biodiversity and home to the iconic Mushroom Rocks, a crucial part of Hyderabad’s ecosystem. This reckless move prioritizes corporate interests over ecological preservation, endangering a vital section of the University of Hyderabad’s east campus. When students took a stand to resist this environmental destruction, they were met with ruthless police repression and violent manhandling.
This brazen crackdown exposes the double standards of the Congress party, which postures as a defender of democracy at the national level while enacting anti-people policies in the states it governs. Congress refuses to learn from its past mistakes. In Chhattisgarh, the Hasdeo forest—the largest stretch of dense forest in central India, often called the “lungs of Chhattisgarh”—was handed over to Adani for coal mining under a Congress regime. Ironically, the same Congress and Rahul Gandhi repeatedly attack the BJP and Modi for their nexus with Adani! Such betrayals are precisely what enabled the BJP’s landslide victory in Chhattisgarh in 2023, allowing them to further cement their fascist control in the region.
The Congress led Telangana govt. ordered a police assault on students on March 30. During this violent crackdown, multiple students were physically assaulted, over 20 were detained, and many were subjected to brutality. Their clothes were ripped, their bodies bruised—this was nothing short of a state-backed attack on students’ fundamental rights and dignity. The use of JCBs for demolition was both shocking and blatantly illegal, given that a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the matter was already pending in court, the govt actions constitute a direct violation of legal proceedings.
If Congress continues to claim it is fighting to protect democracy and the Constitution, it must stop all actions that point to the contrary. The Congress government’s anti-people & pro-corporate actions only enable the BJP’s rise and only weakens the struggle against fascism.
Solidarity to the students of HCU who are facing police repression and crackdown to resist the destruction of biodiversity, the commercialization of natural resources and the exclusion of common people from shared environmental spaces. This is not just a campus issue—it is part of a larger people’s movement to safeguard the environment from corporate greed and an exploitative model of ‘development’ that prioritizes profits over people and nature.
